Personal Fitness Pillar #1 Meditation

As we age and face different stages of maturity our physical needs change.  Personal fitness is a holistic approach to becoming and staying fit that considers all the physical, spiritual and mental aspects of good health.  The Seven Pillars of Personal Fitness form the foundation for staying fit and healthy as we move through these stages. Dr. Yim and his wife Beth will be presenting lectures and workshops on these Seven Pillars starting with Everyone's Guide to Meditation and Self Healing.

Pillar #1

Meditation

Meditation taps into the body’s inherent powers of healing, renewal and strength. It helps you focus on the present and feel real peace and joy in the now. It is a conduit with which you access your higher self, wisdom, and Source and it increases awareness. In so doing meditation helps you access the unconscious mind.

In our day to day lives the conscious mind tends to rule the roost, keeping us focused on the physical realm, analyzing situations, creating an inner dialogue, etc. Research has shown that the unconscious mind seems to favour the functions of the right hemisphere of the brain, the center for creativity, while the conscious mind seems to favour the left side or the logical side. During meditation both sides work in unison. When we are under stress, the left brain skills tend to be dominant, so when we can access both sides of our brain we have a more holistic approach to wellness and healing.

Before we explore the top meditation techniques let’s first consider the benefits of meditation. It’s simple really. When we quiet the mind from external and internal chatter we open ourselves up to greater clarity. MRI scans have shown that the practice of meditation can actually rewire the brain to promote a deeper and more stable state of calmness. That’s a pretty appealing state to achieve when you feel stressed and overwhelmed!

Of course, there are other benefits, that are just as good:

  1. Increased attention span
  2. Increased imagination and creativity
  3. Increased patience
  4. Increased tolerance
  5. Increased intuitive awareness
  6. Decreased resting heart rate
  7. Decreased blood pressure
  8. Increased immune function
  9. Increased quality of sleep
  10. Decreases chronic pain
  11. Insight into health and wellness issues

With so much research pointing towards meditation as the magic bullet of quality living, it makes sense to learn as much as you can. After all, it’s inexpensive, doesn’t require equipment and you can do it whenever and wherever you have a few minutes. You can’t beat that for easy prevention of some of the major lifestyle diseases like cancer, cardiovascular disease and autoimmune conditions!

John and Beth Yim will be offering an informative and interactive workshop on meditation and self healing techniques.  They will be introducing  a variety of techniques so you can find one that works best for you.  Using Chinese Medicine participants will learn how to generate chi and healing medicine and then distribute that medicine to areas that need healing.  To register online and receive your free Top Ten Meditation Techniques click here.  For those who register before July 15, we are offering a special price!
