Activating Neuro-Lymphatic Points During Abhyanga Massage
The lymphatic system acts like a drainage system, carrying proteins,
hormones, and fats to all the cells. A kind of waste disposal, it also
removes toxins and carries them to the veins leading to the heart. From there
the toxins can be disposed of through the bloodstream.
These incredible system produces one-third of the white blood cells in the
body as well as antibodies to fight foreign intruders.
Though the bloodstream operates in a closed system under pressure moved by
the beating of the heart, the lymphatic system flows in one direction through
the peristalsis, valves and milking action of muscle contraction.
The lymphatic system is energized and regulated by neuro-lymphatic reflexes,
located mostly on the back and neck. These points are like light switches
that can be turned off when the system is overloaded. This is why during
your Abhyanga Massage you will be working these points and stimulating the flow
of lymph.
When palpated these points are usually tender with the most sensitive points
at the front of the body. During your Abhyanga Massage if you locate a
particularly sore spot, it may have a greater need for concentrated work.
To work these points, with your fingers move around the point in a circular
motion, using as deep a massage as tolerated. Keep the pressure up for
20-30 seconds. If these points are particularly sensitive continue to work
them on a daily basis.
