Anyone Can Meditate

Have you experienced meditation?  Did you get training or is your meditation practice self taught?  What are the benefits you feel you have experienced from meditation?

Each one of us may have a different understanding and experience of meditation.  Some women find they can't turn off their brains long enough to focus on anything.  While others try over and over to have a transformational experience and it never happens. Still others attain a state of existence that is both insightful and life altering.

Meditation is a deeply personal practice that is as unique as the individual. From praying to chanting, journaling and deep breathing all have the potential to achieve a meditative state.

The act of meditating, no matter how it is practiced causes a physiological response within your autonomic nervous system sending the body into a state of relaxation. In other words, the act of meditation is the conscious mind actively stimulating the subconscious mind.

As women transition, their ability to consciously relax may be hampered by years of practice being "on point" for her family and/or career.  This does not negate the importance of practicing and finding a technique for achieving the relaxation response, it just means there is a need to discover the right technique.

What works for you?  My practice involves movement.  I find it hard to keep still and focus my mind without getting sleepy so I move.  Qigong is an ancient Chinese practice that is a combination martial art, medical treatment and spiritual enhancer.  I find it's slow rhythmic movements and intentional thought process very relaxing and while I do the routine my thoughts can be trained on gratitude, affirmations or self healing.  How do you relax and attain a meditative state?
