What is a Meridian
Meridian is a term used in Chinese Medicine to describe the path that
free-flowing energy moves along throughout the body. Think of meridians as
channels that circulate Qi throughout the body. Along these meridians or
channels are electro-magnetically charged acupuncture points that surround the
capillaries in the skin, blood vessels and organs.
Chinese Medicine names Eight Extraordinary Meridians and Twelve Ordinary
Channels. The Eight Extraordinary Channels are the primary channels formed
as a fertilized egg first begins to divide. Later, as the fetus develops
these channels help in the creation of the internal organs by supplying energy
and resources. These eight meridians draw energy from the kidneys, which in
Chinese Medicine are the repository for Qi essence.
Each of these channels is named by the life function it is associated with.
For instance, one of the Twelve Ordinary Channels is called the Large Intestine
Channel. You can guess which system it is associated with!
The flow of Qi throughout the meridian system is continuous and unbroken.
There is no beginning or end. When this flow is unrestricted the body works in
optimal harmony, keeping the body healthy and balanced.
However, we live stressful lives which can cause an "overload" on the system
leading to blockages or stagnating Qi. Before the energy flows freely, the
flow of energy needs to be reset. Running the meridians as part of your Abhyanga
Massage stimulates the flow of Qi and activates these specific meridians.
In this workshop you will be learning the following meridians:
- Heart
- Small Intestine
- Triple Warmer
- Circulation/Sex
- Liver

You will also learn to run the Governor Meridian, one of the Eight
Extraordinary Channels!
