Energy Boosting CoQ10-The Youthful Antioxidant!
CoQ10,is a powerful antioxidant. It is important for the production of cellular energy, heart muscle function, immune function, and increasing oxygen levels at the cellular level. This energy-generating potential, found in every cell, is
also of benefit for brain longevity. By helping the cells 'Power Plants",
the mitochondria, it provides energy for neurons, the brains information
processors.
In a recent study on hepatopathy
and liver disease in patients taking statin drugs, it was found that CoQ10
levels were low. The suggestion made by the Department of Medicine in
Singapore was to have patients on statin drugs supplement with CoQ10 as the
drugs inhibit the body's own production of the nutrient.
The challenge with CoQ10 is it's
poor bioavailability, especially for adults over 50. Found in mackerel,
salmon and sardines, beef, peanuts, and spinach people over fifty produce only
half of the amount as those at the age of twenty.
CoQ10 needs to be taken with a
fat-containing meal or with your fish oil or other oil supplements. Please
ask your health care practitioner for the form, either softgel or emulsified
that is right for your body type.

Rev- Up Your Metabolism
Could cinnamon be a simple
solution to a sluggish metabolism? Not completely, but research has found
that cinnamon can mitigate the adverse affects of glucose metabolism and insulin
resistance.
Long used as an antiseptic for
minor cuts and scrapes, it is also gaining recognition for its abilities as a
digestive aid and blood sugar balancer. It can help relieve nausea,
vomiting, diarrhea, and indigestion. For helping with metabolism,
researchers at Tufts University found this delightful spice more than doubles
insulin's ability to lower blood sugar, which helps significantly in
preventing insulin resistance from turning into diabetes!
I will be creating a recipe data
base shortly so keep on checking back for delicious ways to incorporate good
food and good living into your daily lives!

Vitamin D and Macular Degeneration
Vitamin D has been getting a lot of press lately
for its ability and role in fighting cancer. But now it takes on a new
role, lowering the risk of macular degeneration. This study interested
me as my mom has the disease and suffers on a daily basis. Since macular degeneration is one of the
leading causes of blindness in the elderly it serves as motivation for me to
prevent its onset!
The study involved over 7,000
subjects, 11% of which had macular degeneration. Researchers found that
those with macular degeneration had lower levels of vitamin D intake.
From fighting cancer to helping
prevent blindness, Vitamin D is a star player in the journey to Becoming
Ageless. As always check with your healthcare practitioner for proper
dosage and form.
